[OPEN] House Contest: Plates and Palates!
Who: Everyone!
What: House Contest: A cooking competition!
When: Days 264 and 265
Where: The kitchens of the Welcome Halls
Rating: PG-13 tops! If anything goes over that, move to a private log please!
On the morning of Day 264, Travelers of Asgard will notice some changes made to each of the Gods' Welcome Halls.. Placards have appeared in all nine kitchens inviting them to another cooking competition! Only this time, rather than cupcakes, the gods want to see the finest entrees the realms have to offer. This can be virtually anything, from a simple pasta dish to a complicated foie gras, so long as it's handmade! Those that have moved out of the Welcome Halls are also invited to compete and groups are more than welcome to work together, but the rules state that Travelers may only work on dishes in their own God House.
As with previous cooking-related events the Gods have hosted, each kitchens will be set up with one of those handy magical tables: If a Traveler approaches it with an ingredient in mind (anything at all, even if said ingredient does not usually belong in a recipe!) the item will immediately appear on the table!
Once a dish is complete, contestants are instructed to place it at their patron's alter. The competition ends on the evening of Day 265, after which the Gods themselves will be tasting each dish firsthand!
[OOC: This is the catch-all log for those who wish to enter the House contest. Separate threads can be found for each Welcome Hall, with a separate thread for submitting the finished dishes! Winners will be announced over the Network on Day 266.]

DISH ENTRIES
Feel free to be as detailed as you want as to what is in it and of what quality, especially if you made something nasty to teach those Gods a lesson!

It's not exactly pretty to look at, but it's well seasoned, with a nutty texture and a rich flavor awaiting anyone who decides to try some. It also comes with a small note in terrible handwriting which suggests whiskey would normally be a good drink to have with it. However, there is none to be found, and whether or not this was a deliberate choice on Jamie's part isn't stated.

Sneaking a bit off to the side and hoping no one will notice her, she takes a bit of the pudding stuff into her mouth and downs it. It tasted off to her but she wouldn't let that deter her.

"Hey? Now how did that happen?"
Frowning slightly, he turns to look about him to see if there was some explanation from it - but all he sees is Arya, standing far enough away that he's not immediately suspicious of her presence. It's a kitchen, so naturally people would want to eat. But to his mind, it's entirely possible that she might have seen someone nosing about his dish, and he calls over to her.
"Ah, hello? Listen, I'm sorry to bother ye while you're eating, but some of my food's gone missing. I don't suppose you'd have happened to notice anyone around poking about a few minutes ago?"
no subject
"No! I haven't seen anyone." Except herself and her sticky fingers poking around the kitchens.

But after a few moments of this, he drops his hands back to his sides, letting most of his frustration out in a heavy sigh. "Och. Aye, well, suppose there's not much to be done for it now. Maybe I can even it up somehow, make it so the holes don't show as much."
It's not as though he'd made it very pretty to look at to start - it's a bit hard to when it comes to what he's serving. Stepping back towards the table, he goes to retrieve another plate and a spoon in order to remove a little of the extra and make it a smaller portion. As he does so, he glances back up at Arya with a considering look. As long as he's going to adjust things anyway, he might as well be polite and offer to share the dish.
"Hey, are ye still hungry? You're welcome to try some of this if ye like."

For dinner, she made a chicken pot pie with homemade buttery crust, full of chicken and carrots and potatoes and celery.
And because you can't have dinner without dessert, she also offers an apple pie, because it's delicious and a necessary staple to everything ever. And just in case the gods don't like apple, she also made a blueberry pie, with a tiny note attached that there is ice cream in the freezer if they would like some.

Carefully, she adds some of the apple to her plate along with some pot pie, taking a bite of each and smiling to herself.
I AM UNSURE IF I CAN TAG BACK OR NOT SO IF NOT JUST IGNORE ME...
She wasn't a competitive person by nature and, really, she could care less if she won this silly little contest or not, but she did like making food, and she liked making people happy even more. So when she saw someone she didn't recognize from Sigyn eating her pie, she couldn't help but wander over and extend a shy greeting.
"If you didn't like it, I could make something else."
fff- I wasn't told you couldn't~ so c: /waves shyly
"Oh, it's the opposite, really!" Hopefully some compliments here and there wouldn't be against the rules right? Odin would have final say, of course, who won this silly contest. "You're quite good at this."
She smiles, taking another bite and swallowing. Her movements were delicate and practiced, with perfect manners. If she wasn't supposed to be visiting and trying other dishes, she just might wander back home with this one! Though, it was true she had things to do here. It didn't hurt to converse a little now and again. The girl seemed shy but friendly enough.
huzzah!
"Thank you."
She paused before deciding to offer something of an explanation for her choice.
"If I disguise food in the form of pie, my husband is a little more inclined to eat it."
Castiel is picky.
sorry for the late ;u;

Samantha's Entry - Why... Why did you let her enter this?
The Opossum meat, once the skin, claws, organ meat and head were removed, were cleaned thoroughly and salted before being chilled overnight. The next morning, it was stewed over a couple of hours in lightly salted water. Once the meat was tender, it was arranged in an oven tray together and browned along with Marjoram, Thyme a very light dusting of ground Isenvane native to Asgard. The magically-active Isenvane, used in a dosage that should not prove overtly poisonous would nevertheless give a particularly potent added flavor and a bit of a sense of chills to those who ate the hearty, savory meat. If it would have any weakening effect on the fire powers of someone so gifted, it was only a temporary thing... it might even be considered something of a blessing, if one thought too much on the added accoutrement.
To go with this meat, she included a side dish of lamb fries and spicy grits. The grits were prepared with hominy, ground herself in a small mill the evening before while the Opossum chilled. The day that she was getting everything ready for the meal, she sauteed garlic with ramps and kale in extra virgin olive oil before adding water and simmering. The grits were brought to a low boil in water with soy milk and once both were ready, she folded the kale in with copious amounts of Tabasco.
As for the lamb fries, she saved their preparation until the Opossum was stewing and the hominy boiling so everything timed out just right. Before preparation, Samantha took fresh garlic and minced three cloves of it along with a single half of a diced ghost chili pepper, the seeds removed carefully. Along with a piece of fresh, peeled ginger, and kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, the glaze was mixed together with pomegranate molasses and olive oil. A single drop of pure Capsaicin extract was added to give the glaze the proper heat for what she wanted.
Glaze ready, she prepared the lamb fries for the side dish. They were sliced in half, the membranes cleaned off properly and friend in some extra-virgin olive oil until they begin to color. At that point the glaze was added and stirred in for the rest of the frying.
===
In theory, Samantha's meal was prepared with the skill of a well-trained cook. However, the food was made with considerably different pallet concerns than a normal human would usually use. The hominy grits and the sweet molasses glazed lamb fries were not only 'unusual' choices by most standards, but blisteringly hot. Their flavors came out strongly, but the food was hot enough to bring tears to the face of a spice challenge eater. On the other hand, the 'main course' of the Opossum was not hot in the same way, but very strong and pungent, having a gamey taste not entirely like very hearty dark chicken meat. With the incorporation of a very light dusting of a poisonous magical herb native to Asgard, in quantities Samantha was certain would not be highly toxic, but which would add a particularly pungent and chilling effect, it was something of a change of pace, but the whole meal was definitely something that could only be described in one way:
“An acquired taste.” Very well prepared, but debatably sane.
However, if the gods who tasted the meal were to gauge it, it was clear that whatever odd effects there were in the food, they were not meant to make the food dangerous or unpalatable. The heat and harshness were all very intentionally combined, for the purpose of a strange flavor. It's like very pungent Appalachain cooking, amped with heavy heavy spices, not an intentional attempt to 'stick it to the gods.' Sam's assuming they can take it, and in fact tries some herself on her own plate while putting it on Hel's altar.
...yes. She can take her own cooking, but it makes her sweat.
Note Included with Entry
A warning. This dish is very hot and has just a hint of Isenvane that I've tested for safety at these levels. I ask that, if Thor is testing along with Hel, I would like to see him try it.
I'm certain anyone as strong as him should find something like this no challenge at all.

Not a recipe though. He'd never actually tasted this particular cake his Plegian homeland was responsible for. But what was suitable as a sacrifice to one dark god, would surely please the palate of another, right? Right.
Finding a genuine undead limb was probably too much to ask, but the old, rotting arm the table did provide- well, it smelled about right. And the texture was just perfect.
Was it savory? Was it sweet? Did veal's blood and honey go together? Henry added things as they occurred to him; mundane items like 'flour' and 'eggs' were not included. The only oil was a thick, gritty thing, that smelled like someone had scraped it off the floor of a tavern.
It didn't bake, it congealed. The crust was hard and black, more likely to chip teeth than submit to biting. And despite its outward solidity, vein-like cracks ran along its surface, and black liquid oozed from a single deep fissure. It bubbled and dripped, like a particularly diseased volcano, and never seemed to either run dry, or cool down. The inside smelled rich. It had a fullness of scent that- back in Plegia- had led more than one man into madness at trying to describe it. Henry thought he'd gotten pretty close to replicating it. Once he was satisfied, he left it at Hel's altar.
The plate he set it on started to dissolve.
It was technically a cake.
