D581 | open as the day is long
Even odder, part of him hopes they won't. Maybe that's like he's growing up.]
...We won't remember, huh?
[He casts one last look back around the courtyard, fidgeting with his bracelet. Then he casts another last look, and a third one. Yep, it really is weird.]

He does seem mildly surprised to see Yosuke there, though the look is quickly replaced with a smirk.]
Sneaking out without saying goodbye? Wow, I'm so hurt.
[Never mind that he's the one sneaking out here.]

[He would've expected the kid to pack up and flee back to his oh so professional life the second he could... Although now he doesn't know why he expected much at all, to be honest.]
no subject
[You don't have to look so surprised, geeze.]

So soon? And here I thought you were just going to stick around with your friends.

[Which doesn't stop him talking, unfortunately.]

...Whoa. Don't tell me you finally grew up.
[Man, he's almost impressed with how good Yosuke's been at not blowing up over this. Almost.]

[He looks over to a group of children running past them, smiling. That, and the large group of felines that are around him, as he sits there, letting them climb all over him.]
...I'm sure they always will. Besides, we can come back when we least expect it, right?

[And it's not as if he doesn't believe it. But he still falls quiet, casting a glance down at one of the cats now dozing by his feet with no regard for his leg room.
Presently, he yawns and stretches too. It's contagious.] Aaah, but maybe I have been cooped up in this world for too long! I keep expecting some new fourth type of giant to just burst out of the ground as soon as we get going... Don't you get that a little, partner?
[Yeah, yeah, real life doesn't work as neatly as police case files and video games like to make out. He knows.]

[Kanji's voice is subdued as he speaks, looking at the portal with a frown and fiddling with his glasses. He should be glad about the prospect. He should. After all, it means going home, back to the rest of his friends and the life they'd left behind...
He's not moving any closer, though.]
no subject
[Geez, he was more distracted than he thought. He crosses his arms, belatedly trying to give the impression of being remotely at ease.]
...So you're not sure either?
no subject
[He lets out a long sigh.]
But it can't be ... like nothin' ever happened, right? Not something like this?
[Not a year of his life, not all the connections they'd made, not everything that'd happened here. It just - can't be.]
no subject
[And come to think, as far as Yosuke is concerned, Kanji was around for it since day one. Now there's something that feels way more distant than his memories of home.]
I guess... if all of this was to keep everyone at home safe... then what we get to take back with us is the fact that we did. [But he looks back down at his feet when he says it. It's what he believed back then, or at least what he thought he believed...] I dunno. That would be kinda harsh, wouldn't it?
no subject
[His heart's not in what he's saying, though. Sure. What else could be more important than saving everything out there - but how could something so important be rendered so trivial as to be forgotten?]
no subject
no subject
Heh. Suppose it kind of is, huh? The thing is. The thing. Yeah.
[He scratches his head some more as he gathers himself.]
Are you goin' straight home?
no subject
no subject
But still...]
Same. ...I dunno. Ain't sure I'm ready.

But... she was rather fond of him, not to mention of the friends she'd made. And she'd enjoyed her time in the city, as tense and awful as the war had been. So she looked at him, blinking back tears and unsure as to why she felt them welling up in her eyes.]
Yosuke, I...

Looking back at her, he tries to smile - because the onus is on the guy there, right?] Hey, don't cry... You'll get me doing it...
