Breaking the Ice (WIDE OPEN)

Who: Anyone Sick of a gigantic Ice-cicle on our front porch who wants to hep out!
What: Removing the Corrupted Ice
When: d513 and onward
Where: The Viscinity of the Gate of Fire and surrounding areas
Rating: Keep it PG

Meta-Post for all those assisting in breaking up the ice who would like to post logs to that effect. A reminder for you that Here is the OOC Post. The basic rundown of events is that while Baldr and Loki tag-team to assist in purifying the corruption to weaken the ice enough to destroy it, the travelers will be using a combination of ingenuity, well-protected muscle, technology and powers to

a) Keep the ice from going everywhere.
b) Heal workers who get magical frostbite.
c) Melt, explode, break up and destroy the ice, carting any left over out of the city.

This process begins throughout 513, and you may all assume you're cordially invited if you want to help out. I'll leave some general prompts for participants. Remember the following hazards:

Hazards:
-The Ice has not weakened. It's not stronger, and it hasn't grown, but it's just as hazardous as it was to start. Touch it, and you get frostbite that has to be healed magically, and the healing leaves you with regular frostbite to handle the old fashioned way.
-The above matters because part of this plan involves blowing this massive thing of ice to pieces. Yes, you're planning to build big bulwarks and walls, but there's always a risk of some getting on a few of you... or a lot.
-After this is done, clean-up crews will have to scour the streets and search for pieces just in case. ---Once it's all out, the Engineers can focus on rebuilding the Gate of Fire.

Hawkeye Pierce | OTA

[personal profile] stilledsurgeon 2014-09-23 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Hawkeye may be a lazy slob in most other ways, but when it comes to his medical work, he's hard working and meticulous. He'd contacted the folks from Supply to requisition either a tent, or a pavilion, or hell, even just a few bits of canvas and poles so he can set up a small, temporary enclosure to keep people warm despite the chill of the day while he works on their frostbites. It's just no good to let the freshly-healed flesh to get cold again, and this way, people don't have to tramp all the way back to the clinic or the hospital, and it leaves the wandering healers time to handle the injuries that need more immediate care.

So come one, come all, to Hawkeye's Healing Hut For Frostbitten Fingers...and toes. And other things.]

[He'd like to say that he's been careful with the ice. But the fact of the matter is that he rather hasn't been. Curiosity has done what it's best and, well, he'd not thought that simply lightly running his fingers over the surface of the ice would have sure as severe an effect as it clearly has.

He even has the good grace to look a bit sheepish about it, as he makes his way into the little enclosure that Hawkeye's had set up.]

Ah, this is the right place, yes?

[Hawk looks up and raises his eyebrows at the Doctor, then motions to a chair, since the man obviously only injured his fingers.]

Yep, right here. Take a seat. Accident, or could you not resist?

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-09-30 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a moment of silence, at the question. One that's mostly filled with the Doctor taking the seat offered. He does eventually answer though, after a moment further of silence.]

Curiosity is a terrible thing sometimes. Especially when it ends up leading a path right to trouble.

[Be that frostbite or something else. It's easier to admit to curiosity than anything else as well, even when he knows very well that it's his own fault that's landed him in this mess.]

[Hawkeye has to shake his head at the man while chuckling. What is it with some of the people in this place that insist on poking their noses (hands, fingers, feet, whatever) into things that are obviously dangerous?

Not that he's one to talk, but he's usually jumping into things out of a need to pull someone out and get them healed, rather than curiously poking fingers into things.]

And you guys get into a hell of a lot of trouble, I've noticed.

[He grins a little and puts on his gloves (not that germs can get past magical healing, but, you know...habit), then picks up the man's hands to examine the damage.]

Yeah, that's going to require the ol' hocus pocus before I get to the mundane patching up. I...really dunno if it's going to hurt, so brace yourself.

[And he begins using his meager healing power to fix the damage.]
allpurposescarf: (listening intently)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-10-01 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
[It's a habit, really. One that he's at least aware of, but after several centuries of walking right into trouble, whether it's done willingly or not, it's hard to stop. Especially when it does usually mean that the questions that need to be answered are, and in shorter order than they might have been otherwise.]

No more than any other group of people might, I hope.

[He and his other selves can get quite entirely too curious for their own good sometimes, but in a city this size, surely it's only a drop in the metaphorical bucket.]

And if it does, I've probably had things that were worse.

[Most of which have been related to regeneration, but either way, he doesn't make a comment as Hawkeye gets to the healing. Of course, it doesn't do much for the question of whether or not it hurts, but it does work, as the magic left behind by the ice fades leaving a much more normal sort of frostbite in its wake.]

[personal profile] stilledsurgeon 2014-10-01 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I dunno about that. I've known some people who are trouble-prone, but the people I've met here in Asgard take the cake.

[He pulls out a bowl and sets it nearby, getting the hand over it as he pours warm water over the fingers to regain some of the warmth before drying them carefully and setting about wrapping the individual fingers with gauze.]

Why did you touch the stuff, anyway?
allpurposescarf: (let's just see what we have here)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-10-02 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I suppose there might be some truth in that. But if the answers aren't coming any other way, can you really blame us?

[No war can be fought on a complete lack of information, after all. And it's true that it isn't always the search for answers that's been getting them into various sorts of trouble, but such is life. Especially when there's so many different people in the city.]

And mostly because I didn't think anything would happen quite as fast as it did.

[personal profile] stilledsurgeon 2014-10-30 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Blame? Nah, I'll just be here to patch all of you crazy people up when you get yourselves hurt.

[He pauses in his work and grins up at the man, shaking his head. It's probably true that if nobody is willing to take risks, this war would drag on a lot longer.]

Neither did I. Your fingers look like you stuck them in a snow bank for a week!
allpurposescarf: (yes that's better)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-10-31 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Someone has to take up that mantle, it's true. The strange magic of Asgard isn't always tame and besides, if they're meant to win the war that's coming up than it's probably for the best that they're all neatly patched up.]

You'd have to be terribly patient, to want to keep your fingers in a snow bank that long. Or terribly unobservant perhaps.

[There's a grin of his own to match Hawkeye's, too. Odd though the situation is, he's definitely glad that someone's been on hand.]
stilledsurgeon: (pic#7859423)

[personal profile] stilledsurgeon 2014-10-31 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Or very drunk.

[Well, probably. If someone was so drunk they were numb all over already.

Hawk finishes wrapping the last of Four's fingers, taping the gauze down.]

Well, I hope you've learned your lesson about that ice. I'm not sure if you should keep going. This hand isn't going to be very useful for a while.
allpurposescarf: (yes. yes it could work.)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-10-31 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Or that, yes.

[Not that he's had much experience with that level of drunkenness himself, but he knows how it works in theory.]

I'm certainly not going to be touching it again in a hurry! Besides, they should be able to manage well enough for a while. It is a rather large project, after all.
stilledsurgeon: (Friendly grin)

[personal profile] stilledsurgeon 2014-11-01 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, not to mention the fact that you really won't be able to carry anything with that hand for a few days. For some reason, with this ice, my magic healing fingers only go so far.

Still...

[He digs through a bag for one of those pain "potions" sold in the city. It's probably silly to believe in the magical healing that comes from him, but still question the magical property of a pain potion, but Hawkeye's always been a bit strange.]

Here. Those fingers will start getting sore once the nerves wake up from their deep sleep. You'll probably want some of this.
allpurposescarf: (is there anything I can do?)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-11-01 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, well, that's what having another hand is for, yes?

[It won't be quite the same, maybe, and he'll probably forget at least once over the course of the next few days, too. In fact, he reflexively moves to take the potion with the hand in question, before remembering otherwise and taking it with the other - it vanishes away into one of his pockets not long thereafter.]

And better to have this than to leave things to how they might otherwise be. I'm not sure I want to know what might happen if the effect was allowed to run unchecked.
