asgardmeridiem | EVENT LOG: TAKING THE HOBBITS TO VANAHEIM

Who: Everyone going to Vanaheim!
What: We're Taking the Hobbits to Vanaheim. Part Two of this log can be found here!
When: Days 324-334 ( September 10-30 )
Where: On the way to, the way back from, and in the city of Vanaheim.
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ Vanaheim is a truly medieval-looking city and a close ally of Asgard. The city prides itself on tradition and knowledge, with great libraries and a prestigious academy of music and theatre. Residents are mostly a mix of human and elven, and the rulers are a group of the same kind of beings as the Gods of Asgard. Freya & Freyr originally hail from this city -- their coming to Asgard was part of a long-ago peace treaty between Odin and their father: the King of Vanaheim.

Freyr and Freya have been summoned home to Vanaheim, and they have asked any interested traveler in Asgard to come with them. The trip will involve a full IC day's travel by floating Elven train each way, and a five IC day stay in Vanaheim proper. They will be met with a large banquet in the castle courtyard, ushered to large and comfortable rooms in the palace to leave their things and rest in, and given a comfortable spending allowance for any sort of bauble or trinket that they would like to purchase.

The citizens of the city are friendly, but almost condescendingly so. Some will gawk and stare at the travelers; others will speak to them in cooing, coddling tones; others still regard them with open but vague pity, as if not expecting them to understand. Almost all of them will treat them like uncultured, idiot children, and will assume they have no manners and no sense of social intelligence, and will be visibly surprised if they are proven wrong.

Characters will not be babysat or watched over, and will be allowed to go anywhere within the city that they'd like (though any who try to leave will be stopped by stern and chastising guards.)

There will be several location headers below with further details on places in the city and events that your characters can visit and participate in. If there is something particular you'd like to do or see that is not listed below, please let us know!! There will be NPCs out and about, but if there is something you specifically want an NPC to tag, please drop us a line or put it in your comment title.

Signups for this are not required and open to everyone, but keep in mind that if your character is in Vanaheim, they will not be around for a majority of the Bad Moon Rising plot. Traditional prose and [bracket-style threads] are both equally welcome! As always, please feel free to ask us any questions you have.

A tiger!

Now that's something I didn't expect. What do you like about them?

I love cats, all cats, big and little. Tigers were just one of the ones I picked but any of them would make me happy. Lions, tigers, leopards, cheetahs, I'm not at all picky.

You've got big dreams. Fangs don't scare you.

Have you ever seen a circus?

[She grinned like a certain cat and leaned forward.]

You've no idea, Doctor.

Hmm, no, I've heard of them, but have not ever once been.

You'll have to see it! Leaping, twisting, big cats with their jaws opened wide. Complete trust between a trainer and his partner.

You might be good at that.

Me? A cat trainer? [She giggled.] Well... it does sound rather exciting! Do you think Miss Tardis would let me start practicing by drawing up all sorts of big cats?

You'll have to ask her, but she might do. If I talk to her.

SPLENDID! [To think! She suddenly grabbed the Doctor's hand.] I nearly forgot to tell you! Well, I'm glad I didn't, really, it's wonderful I remembered! [She babbled.]

I've been giving all of you, the Doctors that is, nicknames. Numbers are terribly impersonal. All of them have agreed quite happily to their nicknames except for you and the Tenth Doctor. That's mostly because I didn't know you well enough to think of one, and partially because I had forgotten to ask. But now both matters are covered.

...you thought of one?

Dare I ask?

It's not bad! I would never give any of you something mean.

I thought Doctor Circus would be nice! Six is Doctor Kitty, Eleven is Mad Doctor Hatter, Eight has one too. I needed to give you one and one for Ten.

[Doctor...Circus? Well, that's a new one.]

You mean I'm not even ringmaster of this circus?

[It's clear that he intends this as a playful pout and nothing more, because he soon bounces right back with a smile.]

What's Eight's?

Doctor Ringmaster doesn't sound as nice, I don't think. No no, Doctor Circus sounds quite nice, I think. [She grins only to bite her lip. Oh dear... Well...]

You can't get mad at other names.

...why would I get mad? It's not my problem.

[That's not why, she thinks. She's seen how they all talk to one another.]

Promise?

[He just nods.]

Promise.

His nickname is the ah... Dashing Doctor.

[That's it? Oh, a little knock at their appearances is nothing. He shrugs. He's fine---he already has everything he could ever want. So he just grins right through.]

If you fancy his type. No skin off my nose.

[She gave the Doctor a funny look. She should be asking "is that it?" She's seen the way you all talk to one another... alright, perhaps not you specifically but she can get a general idea. She frowns for a moment before leaning forward.]

Perhaps you should be the Calm Doctor instead.

I'm not calm. Not exactly.

[He laughs a little and waves off the suggestion.]

But there's only one person whose opinion on that I'm overly concerned with. And she's not unhappy with me.

You mean Miss Tardis? [Because the Tardis was essentially the law of the Doctors.]

...well, two. Make that two.

Ah... then... You mean Miss Rose. [Alice had asked a bit, seen other conversations. She gazed at Nine and wondered exactly what Miss Rose was to the Doctor.]

Everyone knows about that?

[She blushed.] Well, not as if the other Doctors keep it secret when asked, or Miss Tardis when she talks about strays.

Trust them to do a thing like that. Can't trust me to do what's right in my own time.
