EVENT LOG: TAKING THE HOBBITS TO VANAHEIM

Where: On the way to, the way back from, and in the city of Vanaheim.

Freyr and Freya have been summoned home to Vanaheim, and they have asked any interested traveler in Asgard to come with them. The trip will involve a full IC day's travel by floating Elven train each way, and a five IC day stay in Vanaheim proper. They will be met with a large banquet in the castle courtyard, ushered to large and comfortable rooms in the palace to leave their things and rest in, and given a comfortable spending allowance for any sort of bauble or trinket that they would like to purchase.
The citizens of the city are friendly, but almost condescendingly so. Some will gawk and stare at the travelers; others will speak to them in cooing, coddling tones; others still regard them with open but vague pity, as if not expecting them to understand. Almost all of them will treat them like uncultured, idiot children, and will assume they have no manners and no sense of social intelligence, and will be visibly surprised if they are proven wrong.
Characters will not be babysat or watched over, and will be allowed to go anywhere within the city that they'd like (though any who try to leave will be stopped by stern and chastising guards.)

Vanaheim is a truly medieval-looking city and a close ally of Asgard. The city prides itself on tradition and knowledge, with great libraries and a prestigious academy of music and theatre. Residents are mostly a mix of human and elven, and the rulers are a group of the same kind of beings as the Gods of Asgard. Freya & Freyr originally hail from this city -- their coming to Asgard was part of a long-ago peace treaty between Odin and their father: the King of Vanaheim.

That might be because he's wearing this. (sans crown)
He and Euri spent the day after their arrival checking out the markets, and while he didn't find anything interesting, Euri lit on the fire-themed outfit and insisted that he wear it at least one night of their stay. As hard as he tried to hold out, her unique and powerful methods of persuasion won out as always, so here he is.
It's no so much that he stands out - all of the locals are dressed extravagantly, and some of the Travellers seem to have dressed up after being in their regular clothing for the first banquet. It's just that he looks like a total fucking moron. His hair once again long enough to slick back, he's wearing it off his face, and his eyes look startlingly blue against all the red and black and gold; it's actually becoming, or could be if he'd stop slouching and scowling.]

Honir pops up beside him with eyes wide like the moon, dressed a little less, ah, ambitiously in black slacks, a black wasitcoat with dusk-purple pinstripes, and a white collared shirt open at the first couple buttons. His tie and jacket were abandoned at the table alone with his inhibitions because banquet and alcohol and look how lovely the Travellers are, today! ]

[ He means that genuinely, which doesn't make any sense at all to be awed by the idea of a human prince when he's dined with the royalty of Elves and Dwarves and Gods and once upon a time, Giants. But still, Honir beams at him, eager for his answer and to know about this beautiful creature in front of him. ]

Night 326
After two days in Vanaheim, though, he feels more inclined to participate. The city was cool and he was given a ton of free food and even money – so Hamel supposes he can be a bit more generous and let them enjoy his amazing musical talent.
He's dressed in his usual travel clothes, but the pointy hat and the cape are usually enough to draw attention. And even if his clothes don't stand out here, his violin certainly does. It's the size of a 3/4 double bass but Hamel still holds him like a violin, over his shoulder. It looks absolutely ridiculous until he actually starts playing. His performance of Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen is beautiful, filled with emotion and technically flawless. His usual arrogance melts away when he plays and his expression smoothes, making him look a lot more approachable than he actually is. Hamel may be a cocky bastard, but he is also a gifted musician and if he's bothered to perform, he doesn't half ass it.

So with Marigold by her side, Alice told him to wait, the sketch pad in her pocket to help with the performance.
She took a deep breath and then... then went forward.
She swallowed and then, offered a deep curtsy.]
I would like to perform the Jabberwocky poem, if it would please you.
[Her voice shook a little and then with a deep breath, she began. She knew this poem by heart. She knew it better than that, as she supposed she was technically the one to create it.]
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!

[Alice suddenly pulled her sketchpad out, the items already drawn. She drew life to a blade as it came to her hand. Next a giant tree grew up to cover her.]

[She and Marigold moved behind a tree out of sight and Alice brought forth the paper mache head of Marigold as she emerged back in sight.]

[Alice placed the head down, blade still in hand.]

You've not got just one or two of this brilliant, self-sacrificing hero. You've got six. [Because Theta was just as magnificent as the Doctors.] If anyone should be fearful of the outcome of this war, it should be the enemy.

Any night (oh god i'm sorry for the tldr)
He introduces himself as Jokul Frosti, knowing that would spark some recognition, but quickly adds he prefers to be called Jack Frost. Old Man Winter will be answered to but he'd rather avoid it - after all, who likes being called old?
Having all those eyes on him make him excited as hell, so soon he's climbing chairs and tables to tell his story. He's the Spirit of Winter, and a Guardian of Childhood - the Guardian of Fun to be specific. Back home, he was in charge of the blizzards and the snow days. The Northern Wind was his companion, and thanks to it he was able to fly to all the corners of the world. His snow and his frost held the essence of fun, and he was able to turn even the grumpiest bastard in the block in a laughing joiner of games.
Thanks to his fun magic, he explains, they were able to defeat the personification of fear: the Boogeyman, or Pitch Black, and his army of nightmares. He doesn't talk much about him, though, not wanting to give the asshole credit. No, he was able to win thanks to his magic and the help of the other Guardians.
And so Jack starts telling the story of all the Guardians of Childhood, the myths in charge of taking care of kids around the world. He starts with the Guardian of Dreams, the Sandman -or Sandy, as he calls him. He's the one that gives everyone the sweetest dreams at night. He's also older than dinosaurs and can kick your ass before you blink, so it's better not to make him angry. Sandy is in Asgard too, and stayed behind to protect the children there.
Then comes the Guardian of Wonder, North. Or Santa Claus, Saint Nick, Father Christmas... A huge Russian master sword man with tattooed arms. Once a year, he visits all the children and gives them toys if they've been nice. The rest of the time he lives in the pole, where the yetis build toy based on his ideas and the little elves test them. Jack makes sure to add lots of details about the magnificent workshop and the badass sleigh.
Next is Toothiana, the Guardian of Memories, also known as just "Tooth". Jack takes out the gift he got from the apples for this one. Tooth and her army of mini-fairies pick the kids' fallen baby teeth in exchange of money, and save them in golden boxes like the one he's showing right now. The teeth keep children's more important memories of childhood, and when they need it, she helps them to remember. Here he makes extra sure to describe how pretty her wings are and the wonder that is the Tooth Palace.
Last comes Cottontail, says Jack while chuckling, or just Bunny. The Easter Bunny. A six foot tall warrior rabbit with Australian accent, armed with egg bombs and boomerangs. Grumpy and full of himself... but not a bad guy after all - just don't tell him Jack said that, he begs to his audience. Bunny is the Guardian of Hope and the Spirit of Spring. His warren is a nature paradise, filled with rainbow rivers, painting flowers and giant rock eggs called the Sentinels.
You know Jack is having a good time when he doesn't mind talking so much about Bunny without an insult or two.
All this is always told with the children in mind. Jack's eyes are always fixed on them, on their reactions. He's a fantastic story teller, using the right voices and hand gestures, jumping from table to table like a monkey whenever he feels like it. The attention makes him feel alive.
Hopefully the adults appreciate it as much as the little ones do.]

Every night
But she never does, instead letting her movements bleed into one another and turn everything she does into something with light and grace.
She dances to music and she dances to the sound of people talking. It doesn't matter. She preforms with great ease and ability, happy to put on the show.
She'll go for hours if they let her, spinning and dancing and fighting until the music runs out. She'll take questions after, if anyone chooses to pose them but if not, she will bow and smile and take her leave.]

Any night
She speaks of the neverending struggle to preserve moisture on a planet that used to be nothing but desert apart from right at the poles. It's changing now, but she focuses on the way it used to be before the greening of the desert began.
She speaks of the great storms that nothing but the giant sandworms can survive, and she speaks of riding those same worms.
On a few occasions she demonstrates how they fight, her crysknife a white flash of quick and precise death.
When not doing any of that she simply engages people in conversation to learn more about them, or answering questions about the stories she's told, intending to also show through the force of her own personality that she is indeed a most capable individual. ]

Since landing in Asgard, he hasn't scratched that itch, hasn't given in to the swing of his blade. He hasn't had much time to do it. There hasn't been any reason. As a result, Alvin has been lost in his thoughts. He wants to save his home, and though he trusts Jude and his research, there is a part of Alvin that sees this place as an opportunity.
It has power and knowledge that Rieze Maxia would never have. Wouldn't that be enough?
But there is also the fact that he is alone. Alvin would never say it, but he is grateful for the two kittens he has now. The two kittens at least are almost obligated to like him. Anybody else he's approached is not obligated, and some part of Alvin doesn't want to go through the motions. If he treats Asgard like a business venture to improve things at home, he doesn't need to deal with the harder aspects.
For these reasons, he embraces the performances in Vanaheim. Alvin engages with the idea of being a powerful mercenary with charm and grace. He takes to the clothing available as much as he can, dressing in all black—but varied outfits for varied nights—to give off the impression of being a shady but diligent mercenary.
His show is rough, but, by the second night, very choreographed. He is a man who has trained himself to be ambidextrous because of his lifestyle, fighting with a sword in his less-dominant hand, and a gun in the other. Alvin's sweeps and almost-shots are carefully measured and indications of what he could do in a battle. And though they are choreographed, there is a fierceness to them that almost seems like he could take up a battle at any second.
Or that he craves a battle at any second.
He finishes all of them just the same, with the sword over his shoulder and his lips blowing some "smoke" away from the end of his gun. And he winks, because he can shuffle his personality ever-so-quickly. He's always had to.]
Night 327
[Aurora said she would preform. Under the circumstance, it was the least she could do. She was never nervous when she sang even now, in front of gods.
Aurora stood and then closed her eyes, opened her mouth to let everything she had been feeling out in one cathartic melody. Her hopes at having wanted to be with that boy, only to have been informed not only could she not be with him, she may never see him again, she would never return to the life she lived for she was a princess and more than that, she was betrothed. But even in her pain, she had yearned for her parents, she wanted to know them and she could never disappoint her aunts, could never abandon her people when they needed her. And then the confusion of this world, of having been trapped in a curse to be fulfilled only to find herself not caught in slumber, but in war. And while terrified and worried, wondering what she could possibly do to help...
Hope, small and fragile and scared. Hope to help like she wished to help her people. Hope to bring peace. And fragile hope changed and strengthened to surprise, and fear, and joy all rolled into one at new things, new people, and new friends.
Aurora allowed the song to end on a soft, almost cautious joy, having placed all that she felt was beautiful and exciting in the word into her heart and through her voice.
Slowly she opened her eyes, taking a deep breath as she closed her mouth.]

[ Aʟʟ ɴɪɢʜᴛs ; Open ]
[ Forgive Kaworu but he didn't choose anything fancy to dress - or different. He doesn't know how to dress, after all; nobody ever taught him. He simply chooses clothes that are equal to what he has always worn. White shirt with an orange undershirt, black pants and white shoes. Always the same.
When he came on this trip, at first he thought only about showing his robot to the Queen and King, but when he was moving to his and Shinji's new apartment back in Asgard, Kaworu remembered the violin Charles (who, sadly, is no longer in this world) has left him. while Kaworu always keeps the presents everyone gives him safe and doesn't use them so he won't ruin them, the angel decided he could show the gods the music he loves so much.
Indeed, he brought the violin. And now that the Travelers are expected to show their talents, Kaworu decides to start exactly with that instrument. And tonight, he plays Bach's Violin Sonata no.1 presto. It's short, but if asked, he won't mind playing something more.
Once he is done, he bows softly. ]
[ Nɪɢʜᴛ 326 : Pɪᴀɴᴏ ]
[ Of course the angel didn't bring a piano along, but he asks if it's possible to bring one to courtyard. Since last night's performance went well, he decides to show another song but this time with another musical instrument.
As soon it's set and Kaworu makes sure it's tuned, he sits in front of the piano, long fingers touching the keys and soon he begins to play.
Beethovens's Symphony no. 9, 4th movement, of course. While this song has greater impact if accompanied by an orchestra, the piano version is just as amazing, in kaworu's opinion. It is his favorite song, after all.
Even if a bit long, too.
When he is done, the angel takes a deep breath and pulls his hands away softly ]
[ Nɪɢʜᴛ 327 : Eʟᴠᴇɴ Rᴏʙᴏᴛ ]
[ Kaworu's robot had barely fit inside the train, but in the end he managed.
The robot is actually an Elven Robot imbued with runic magic into its parts, capable of using water as fuel. Elven machines are all steam punk, so the robot is primarily composed of clockwork and wood, with several metal plates covering important wooden areas. The robot is twelve feet tall, humanoid shaped, and can fit just one person inside (but if you squeeze really tight, you can get inside the cockpit).
While the magic that allows it to use magic as fuel, the actual tech itself does not use magic offensively or defensively - so Kaworu uses punches and kicks to fight while he is still working on getting a weapon. this is what the angel will be showing tonight: fighting movements, poses and overall showing the gods that he can control the robot quite easily (showing off, right?). ]
[ Oᴛʜᴇʀ Nɪɢʜᴛs ]
[ For the other nights, Kaworu will simply watch and listen and be amazed at everything and everyone. He has never been to a banquets or anything like showing off their abilities to others. This is all incredibly new to him and this is all incredibly amazing as well.
And everything brings a warm smile to his lips.
After all, he whom loves Lilim so much, is now watching them showing exactly why they are so amazing. The things they do, the things they know, what they create and what they say, what they have seen and how they have grown.
They are amazing. ]

Pathetic. How would gods even believe this bunch is capable to do anything in a war? Did they expect them to dance their enemies to death?
She is at a corner, watching as she bites on an apple. Demona isn't very happy about this whole thing (when is she happy?) and probably regrets coming. What a waste of time. ]

night 327 }
I'm over nine hundred years old, me. I've seen a fair few things. But even through it all...there are people among our Travelers that have done extraordinary things, and I know that potential's there for the rest. And there are people I'll never forget, even hundreds of years after we parted.
[He withdraws a deck of cards from his pocket and starts shuffling it about spectacularly, withdrawing a jack. It's quickly shuffled back in.]
I know it might be difficult, but try to picture just staying where you started your whole life. Sure, you might go on holiday, you might move 'round a bit, but it's nothing like seeing something that you weren't prepared for, that's completely alien. When you're drifting around time and space and you take someone with you 'cause you're feeling a bit lonely otherwise, it's like that. Maybe you'll take someone who's never read a book, or hasn't seen a train, or doesn't have the faintest clue that there's life on other planets, or is new to the concept of a regular shower. And you might think he's a little slow on the uptake.
But then you'd be wrong, because he's there seeing things that you aren't because you're so impressed with yourself that you forget to make sure the ground you're standing on isn't about to explode. Or he throws himself to save your sorry skin without a thought. And you cling 'cause you need him keeping you grounded...and when you've got to leave, you tell him you won't forget...

She isn't quite as good as the siren-like full-blooded Witches, but she's certainly got an edge over regular humans. For the first time in a long time she sings in her native language, a beautiful melodic language made for this, and in her home's human tongue. The latter isn't nearly as enticing as the former, but it's still unusual and interesting. The songs are tales - of the Old Gods, of the defeat of the necromancer Ashur and the rise of the Saint Joan, of brave knights defeating dragons and of dragons dying out due to the slaughter. It might be hard to pick up on the details thanks to the foreign languages, but Euri's skills and talent are enough to still paint captivating pictures in one's mind.]

Night 327
So she has spent a good part of her free time in both Asgard and Vanaheim on rehearsing some of the dances she already knows of, as well as looking up and practising some local dances... and after these days of efforts? Here she is, all dolled up and in front of a new audience. She has chosen two dances from her "repertoir" and used part of the money she was given to get what she needed; there was no time to get stage fright, she can't fail, and specially now.
The first dance is a playful and cute solo that comes from the Etrurian legend of a beautiful doll that once captured a man's heart. She follows it with an apparently light-hearted dance which is actually inspired by the local tragic story of a nobleman and a peasant girl. In all of these she pours all of her effort, hoping that she will be able to reach for those around her...
And everything goes without a hitch in the end, much to her relief. When the crowd around her cheers, Ninian blushes softly and makes a curtsy to them; if someone would like to speak to her, now it's the time.]

He's dressed in only boxing shorts, light shoes, and a pair of gloves. He wonders if he should encourage Minato to wear a helmet, for his own safety. But Akihiko believes he has enough control over his techniques to avoid dealing a blow to the head. Hopefully.
With one last stretch of his legs, he starts making his way toward the ring, donning a serious expression. He intends to put on one hell of a match for the spectators, even if he can't give it his all.]

He clears his throat. ]
I hardly need to tell you that I am an old man, I do believe that is quite clear for everyone to see. It has been quite some time since I was part of my kingdom's army, and there is only so much I can offer Asgard's. That is why I will not talk of any of my own accomplishments, but instead of someone who stayed behind. My son, Arthur.
The quickest way to topple a kingdom is to eradicate its ruler. Such an attempt was made on Camelot, and I was left incapacitated. Arthur was young, and while mighty in his own right, still only Crown Prince, as a massive army marched for our city to strike at its core. It was the only threat of such a size he had faced without my guidance, it would perhaps have been perfectly understandable if he decided to surrender. Were he a lesser man, he most certainly would have.
But he is no lesser man. He stepped up into a role similar to that of a king and prepared the city, its people and its army for a siege even if we were far outnumbered.
When I started recovering, the siege was upon us. I attempted to join the battle, to protect my kingdom, but Arthur would not have it. He promised me that I would still have a kingdom once I was well, and he did not fail that promise. If it were not for him, Camelot would surely have fallen.
It did not surprise me, for he is the greatest warrior the Five Kingdoms have known in their time, and his knights are greater than any others. I have seen his growth and I know, that there are very few, if any, who possess his skill.
He loves Camelot and he would protect it to his dying breath. He also loves Asgard and the people in it, and will treat it in the same manner. He will not let the city fall, and he will not let its people perish. He will do everything in his power to keep everyone breathing, and to breathe life into Asgard again. With him present, you are safe.
[ He pauses for a while, lets it hang, but doesn't move. Then, he moves his hand to the hilt of his sword. ]
That is not to say I am not a worthy warrior, myself. I have a sword, and if there is anyone willing to spar, I would be glad to show what I am capable of. All you need to know is that Arthur could easily beat me.
Night 327 and 328
As he talks, he punctuates his words with grand, sweeping gestures, using them to help bring extra life to the story, even when it seems he is bound for certain doom. Luckily, he's not alone. Thanks to the Doctor, fresh air is sent in, clearing the tunnels of the gas the Macra needs to survive and sending them into a stupor just in time to free Jamie. Unsure if the Macra will awaken again, he desperately seeks a way out, and finds one in the heart of the colony, where dancers are practicing a number to show how great and wonderful the colony is. In order to make his escape, he plays along, offering to show a dance he learned back home in Scotland called the Highland fling - something he can use to 'fling' himself out the door.
It takes a little coaxing from his friends there in Vanaheim, but eventually he's persuaded to show the dance to them as well before having to admit his grand escape plan didn't quite work. He is recaptured, along with the Doctor and Polly. But all is not lost - Ben is still free, breaks the subliminal control he was under and, with a little direction from the Doctor, manages to save his friends and put an end to the Macra's reign once and for all.
That was supposed to be it for his storytelling. However, after hearing the Doctor later that same night, he changes his mind, and the following evening finds him back upon the stage telling other stories of his travels. Jamie and the Doctor've been through many adventures together, and there's so much more there than he could hope to pass along during their stay...but the Doctor's shown him so much and taught him so many things, and is, really, the most clever man he knows. If he can get across any of that to the others, then maybe they'll see a little of what he sees - and that's no bad thing, at least as far as he's concerned.]
