EVENT LOG: TAKING THE HOBBITS TO VANAHEIM
Who: Everyone going to Vanaheim!
What: We're Taking the Hobbits to Vanaheim. Part Two of this log can be found here!
When: Days 324-334 ( September 10-30 )
Where: On the way to, the way back from, and in the city of Vanaheim.
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!
[
Freyr and Freya have been summoned home to Vanaheim, and they have asked any interested traveler in Asgard to come with them. The trip will involve a full IC day's travel by floating Elven train each way, and a five IC day stay in Vanaheim proper. They will be met with a large banquet in the castle courtyard, ushered to large and comfortable rooms in the palace to leave their things and rest in, and given a comfortable spending allowance for any sort of bauble or trinket that they would like to purchase.
The citizens of the city are friendly, but almost condescendingly so. Some will gawk and stare at the travelers; others will speak to them in cooing, coddling tones; others still regard them with open but vague pity, as if not expecting them to understand. Almost all of them will treat them like uncultured, idiot children, and will assume they have no manners and no sense of social intelligence, and will be visibly surprised if they are proven wrong.
Characters will not be babysat or watched over, and will be allowed to go anywhere within the city that they'd like (though any who try to leave will be stopped by stern and chastising guards.)
[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the Vanaheim travel event! There will be several location headers below with further details on places in the city and events that your characters can visit and participate in. If there is something particular you'd like to do or see that is not listed below, please let us know!! There will be NPCs out and about, but if there is something you specifically want an NPC to tag, please drop us a line or put it in your comment title.
Signups for this are not required and open to everyone, but keep in mind that if your character is in Vanaheim, they will not be around for a majority of the Bad Moon Rising plot. Traditional prose and [bracket-style threads] are both equally welcome! As always, please feel free to ask us any questions you have.

Vanaheim is a truly medieval-looking city and a close ally of Asgard. The city prides itself on tradition and knowledge, with great libraries and a prestigious academy of music and theatre. Residents are mostly a mix of human and elven, and the rulers are a group of the same kind of beings as the Gods of Asgard. Freya & Freyr originally hail from this city -- their coming to Asgard was part of a long-ago peace treaty between Odin and their father: the King of Vanaheim.

Night 325
That might be because he's wearing this. (sans crown)
He and Euri spent the day after their arrival checking out the markets, and while he didn't find anything interesting, Euri lit on the fire-themed outfit and insisted that he wear it at least one night of their stay. As hard as he tried to hold out, her unique and powerful methods of persuasion won out as always, so here he is.
It's no so much that he stands out - all of the locals are dressed extravagantly, and some of the Travellers seem to have dressed up after being in their regular clothing for the first banquet. It's just that he looks like a total fucking moron. His hair once again long enough to slick back, he's wearing it off his face, and his eyes look startlingly blue against all the red and black and gold; it's actually becoming, or could be if he'd stop slouching and scowling.]
Re: Night 325
Let me guess, Euri got a little too excited.
no subject
You got a cape. You lose this one.
[Yeah, except that Pyro's not wearing any pants.]
no subject
Remind me who is the one wearing the skirt again?
no subject
[There is absolutely no pride in that statement. For once, correcting someone gives him no joy.]
So we both look like jackasses. Color-coded jackasses, too. What're you doing to show off for the parents?
no subject
Don't look at me, I'm the one supposed to be all mythical and stuff. [He hated it at first but he's getting used to these things. They're more comfortable than he expected.]
Stories from home, what else. My powers, the other Guardians, battling to save the world... you know, the usual fable deal. Are you doing anything?
no subject
[He tilts his head, almost more threatening with his attempt to look innocent.]
Can't hurt to get some gods on the mutant side. Freyr said to impress them with what we can do now, but maybe if they hear just what the assholes in Asgard neutralized to fight this war, they'll put a condition or two on sending the twins back.
no subject
[He rolls his eyes, not really surprised. This is Pyro after all. He can't really be mad though. What the mutant is saying sounds... well, more than tempting.]
...you really think they can do something about it?
no subject
[He's actually quite pleased with himself, considering he was basically brought into the Brotherhood for pure firepower. He was never intended to get in on the planning, but he thinks -
- well, he doesn't think what he was about to think, because it just makes bile rise in the back of his throat now.]

Re: Night 325
[ 'Unique and powerful' my glittery immortal ass!
Honir pops up beside him with eyes wide like the moon, dressed a little less, ah, ambitiously in black slacks, a black wasitcoat with dusk-purple pinstripes, and a white collared shirt open at the first couple buttons. His tie and jacket were abandoned at the table alone with his inhibitions because banquet and alcohol and look how lovely the Travellers are, today! ]
You look fit to be a prince! [ A beat. ] Are you a prince?
[ He means that genuinely, which doesn't make any sense at all to be awed by the idea of a human prince when he's dined with the royalty of Elves and Dwarves and Gods and once upon a time, Giants. But still, Honir beams at him, eager for his answer and to know about this beautiful creature in front of him. ]
it is a bad night for html, sob.
Oh. Drunk local? He can deal with this.]
Not a prince. [He smirks. Praise does bad things to this boy.] Just a god among insects.
cries
Hold on - you're a what?
[ Never mind that Pyro just called them all insects. ]
Did someone have a kid without telling me?
[ This is genuinely distressing. He thought they were all family. 8( ]
no subject
Well, no, there's a good deal of mockery there.]
Figure of speech, man. Just supposed to put a picture in your head.
I'm a mutant. Pyrokinetic, so - [He waves a hand at his outfit, indicating the touches of flame here and there.]
no subject
I get it. You're a prince of flame, then. I like it.
no subject
Yeah, that'll work. I'd put on a hell of a show for you guys if, y'know, I could.
[It takes work, but he keeps the bitterness out of his voice. His plan is quickly-formed and probably half baked, but he's got the idea that if he can properly express the power of mutants to the gods here, maybe they'll lean on Asgard's gods to reinstate their powers. For the sake of the children they traded away.]
no subject
[ Said frankly; he wouldn't consider it a show under any circumstances. Honir shoves his hands into his pockets, but his smile stays kind. ]
I'd watch you in your element if I could, though. I thought the Allfather granted some of you pyrokinesis?
no subject
[Whoops, and there goes all of his smug.]
I wouldn't call it pyrokinesis, not like the mutation. More like playing with magic matches. Baldr picked me, though.

You look like you could use some help.
[Rude? Maybe. But fashion is very important.]
no subject
I never need help. What's your problem?
no subject
[Alvin shrugs it off like it's no big deal. For him, it is no big deal.]
no subject
[Okay, yeah, he's hugely defensive about this stupid outfit. He withdraws his lighter from within the folds of his robes, flicking it on and off to calm himself down.]
no subject
You got me all wrong. I'm not annoying.
no subject
You like fire?
no subject
[He's seen things like it in Elympios, but he knows what's right before him isn't a Spyrix.]
no subject
Lighter fluid. Combustible. Then you make a spark - [He spins the wheel without depressing the button that'll release the gas, just to demonstrate.] - and when you put the two together, fire. [Again, a demonstration.]
Genius, right?
